Torch color...

How do you tell if a Torch is getting bleached from too much par or losing color from not enough par? Basically I feel like they look the same...losing color.

IME too much light will make a coral recede, it damages the coral quickly or even kills it. You will see reaction quickly

Low light will slowly make the coral pale or brown out.

Growing these things is no problem. Flesh for days and very healthy. Been keeping them in the 170 range and just seem to lose their pretty. Gonna acclimate them up. Keep nitrates 15-20. Phosphate .05-.1 Feed like crazy.

One example. Master losing it's pretty. The smaller one on the right is also a master and has definitely lost color.

Had a dragon soul turn brown after purchase.
Moved him over 6" towards tank center, under more light, and up a couple of inches. Coloring back up now.
I like your nutrient levels.

THey all look like they are growing well, so I would either try adjusting lighting (possibly too much), or if you don't want to adjust lighting yet, move one of the torches to a place with less light and see if it starts to color back up.

Yep. I'm gonna get these bad boys up above 200. I'm not bold enough for the 350 I hear some people do.

TBH I have never encountered bleaching from my torches. My very first one that died didn't show any bleach or color changes. Straight up receded until fleshband turned to skeleton and then finally bailed.

Color can vary between tank parameters. Hence when I buy corals, I know for a fact I may not maintain the same colors. My colors tend to pop when I spot feed a mixture of live phyto, brine and reef roids.

My torches are between 150-250 par.

This is my soul and tamer one month difference being in the tank. I had more white intensity during the second pic. But the tamer still has the deep blues, but it gained more orange/yellow along the tentacles and still has the nice green tips. The soul has a lot more deep orange/yellow.

This is when I got this beauty. She's definitely turned down some. I do feel like a lot of torches lose some of that vibrance as the tentacles grow. Stretches out the color or something...
