Torch losing tissue

My indo gold torch has slowly closed up one of its heads and I can see tissue flaking off into the column. Was my healthiest coral till I added a derusa clam a week ago and everything doesn't seem as open. Could be the lack of nitrates or my parameters but I'm currently not home to test. Should I cut the closed head off to prevent a loss?
