Greeting Reefers. So, id like to discuss peoples experiences with torch corals and coloration. They are notorius for morphing. Often, morphing upon arrival, only to morph again a month later.
I can brighten up the gold torches, fairly easily. But i struggle with fluorecent green, in particular, in torches. Lots of new morphs have the green mouths, but i find after a few months, the green has faded away, but the torches are often much much brighter in gold color, than they were.
So, i wanted to discuss, what has worked for folks to get that bright green? What kind of par are you guys using on them? Spectrum?

I have a lagoon tank, 30" wide, 24" deep 18" tall. I run g5 blues, on ab+, with reefbrites, and a single blue+ t5 that pops on for 5 hrs a day.
My params are steady, solid, im very in tune with the tank. 1.026 Alk runs 8.5-8.3 mag is 1350, cal 440-50. Nitrate 15-20ppm, phos .25 on hanna ulr.

I have tried running just blues and purples, didnt help. Ive tried lots! I just seem to chase that green color! Ill share a few pics, to show the corals look great. Im wondering if it may be a chemisty issue possibly? But i dose trace elements, esv transition, along with b ionic 2 part.. so, idk.

Really thinm it depends more for leds. On t5s you wont get the crazy pop colors you can get on leds. But i still believe t5s grow coral better. They deff cover a tank better with full light as well and no shadow or flicker. But with various bulbs. Even all uv you cant get quite the pop you can with leds.

Even if you suppliment with leds. Thats why at night i turn my t5s off with the leds on to get the glow you see in your pics

NickCage007,

I took your advice regarding more blues at the end of my AB+ schedule and it actually got the green back on the NY Knick that lost it in my tank. The green is holding steady. I just started a similar thread to see if I can get some gold/yellow back: R2R Torch/Spectrum/Par/Nutrient

Here is what's happening to mine. When I got this TSA HG:

Sorry I am of no help as I am trying to figure out myself too. But I was wondering if you could share your tricks to bring out the gold. I have ReefLED 90s and AI prime. Thanks!

Golds come out with a heavy royal blue spectrum. So, on a prime, id max out royal blue, regular blue (maybe cool blue, im a radion guy, basically, both blues) also max out the uv, and the violet. Green and reds, about 10-12% and white, extrememly minimal. Maybe 15% max, and thats if u really enjoy the white.
Thats how u get golds to come out.

Im starting to think its a par level thing. So, some background here... a particular torch, that had random green tentacles, amongst a gold torch, has morphed and gone just purple and gold. No green. I run the exact same lights as the farm. Same hrs. Same exact schedule (i copied it on purpose, angry i lost the green.. ) and still, 8 months later, i still have no green. The other torches have some green. This one in particular, is like stuck... and wont morph back. And im starting to think its just par. They have their lights much higher.. but run higher intensity. I have mine low, in a canopy, but i run less intensity. But i do have slightly higher par. Idk. Its puzzled me a long time. I just figured maybe i was missing something.

I will post some pictures of the torch..

So those photos are the day i got it, a month later, and then 7 months. As u can see, progressively it gets golder, and loses the green.

It seems the torches on the sand bed, hold their green. So im leaning towards par. I believe the change of 50-75 par, between the sand and mid rock, is enough to make them shift to gold. But, im still not sure.
