Trigger sump filter sock section

Any ideas on what I can put in the filter sock section to make it quite? I want to run the sump with out socks but the water splashing down when I don’t have socks in place is going to drive me crazy lol

Could I fill it with rock rubble?

It’s the water that flows into the socks, when there is no socks in place it has to fall down and you hear it splashing
