I have an old trigger systems triton 44 sump that I acquired with a complete tank purchase. I don’t want to run the triton method and I have a clarisea filter roller I would like to fit in place. I also want the ability to use a sock hanger if desired.
My plan is to cut some of the top and an inside panel out. Basically the stock drain area will be open to the refugium area just like the triton 44v2.

My question is what is the best way to cut this without damaging anything? I figured a dremal tool. I plan to remove the area in red in the 3rd pic along with some area on the top to allow for the clarisea and or sock holder to hang

Also do a water fill test and look at deflection. Lots of sumps pick acrylic thickness based on being framed and baffled and would bow to failure if too much is removed.

being on the very edge I see less problems. Adding a cross brace for your sock holder would add insurance.

id like to do this to my triton 44 as well, let us know how it works out
I’m gonna try to work on it tonight or tomorrow and I’ll post a pic. I expected the new tank yesterday but looks like I’ve got at least a few more days to get it ready

Well I put the clarisea together today and cut the sump. I used a Dremel with a 561 cutting bit. It went really well. I need to smooth all the edges and I might need to remove more of the inner panel. Not sure how much water level is needed for the clarisea.

@mrpontiac80 very nice mod.

How high of the piece of the black acrylic that you left it so the clarisea sit on it?

How do you plumb the drain back to the tank?

Thanks. I left about 3.5” of black acrylic from the bottom up. Basically a trial and error cut. It worked.

As for the plumbing, I just plumbed the main drain into the clarisea and ran a secondary drain to the front side of it. My emergency drain falls over the return pump side
