If anyone watched the Triton Founder's speak at MACNA... one thing super caught my ear. He insinuated that Montipora Digitatas liked an increase Barium level, or that levels in which tanks has a pronounced population of Digis always tend to have Barium at around 0.. He didn't elaborate, but out of sheer curiosity, I am curious to see what it lists at in the test result. I am an evidence-based reefer (Thanks Randy!) and have been so for years, and only take chances outside of evidence when I feel the risk is minimal (Like my use of Acropower).
.

No apparent depletion of barium. :)

Randy, I knew you would ask that, and believe it or not, I have never used an phosphate binders on this aquarium since it's inception.

Huh, well I'm not sure where the aluminum might be coming from.

No aluminum parts in the water, or right above it?

Would the T5 lights about 3-4 inches above have an effect?

You know what? I dropped my T5 fixture into the water (about 1/4th of it dipped in) and I immediately took it out. Could that have caused it? Aside from that, I have no other means of putting Aluminum in...

Well fudge... I don't like unexpected parameters! Sigh.. and I literally have no other explanation aside from it being in my salt or fish food.

I see a lot of metal dust in rain water here in nyc it rained last night my white car is almost black the dust sticks to neodymium magnet but it won't rust any idea what it could be also got another question about airplane clouds how is it possible for airplane to make clouds called condinsation or ice crystals in the summer time and the condinsation instead of getting lighter it grows into Cirrus cloud for hours

I doubt it. How long ago?

Corrosion wouldn't be that fast. I suppose if these was substantial corrosion on it already that immediately dissolved, that might do it.

Does the tube or fixture look corroded? How's the leather?

At 0.2 ppm, you'd need to add about 75 mg of aluminum to get 100 gallons to that level. Doesn't sound like much, but it isn't just trace dust either.

I am going to send another test in about a month (or less) just for tracking purposes. The fish and corals look good so far..

What about the Marine Pure 4x4x8 block? I wonder if that's a liable suspect?

You're one of the tin people! :D Don't know what that means yet.

Curious on the aluminum.

Do you use any white phosphate binders?

Me too. Only in one of three systems tested though. The other two were "normal" I thought it may have to do with the ductwork directly over the tank lol. bits of finely rusted duct making its way into the tank? Either way i can rule out anything universal in my case. i did have the high V in all three though.

Metal dust? Do you live near something that might release metals? That isn't normal.

The condensation from an aircraft comes because it pumps more moisture into the air locally than can be held without condensing liquid water or ice at the temperature of the air. Most of the time such condensation evaporates as it spreads out. If it grows into a clod, it was because the air was already supersaturated at that temperature. That is not all that unusual. As the air cools it can hold less moisture, but unless there are surfaces to nucleate condensation, it is slow to start. The plane condensation can act as such a nucleus. :)

Ah, yes, that is a likely culprit.

It doesn't say what the ceramic is composed of, but it is reasonably likely to contain aluminum. It might even mostly be aluminum oxide.

Well dang, now I am motivated to pull it out. Your thoughts on that move??

Edit: Meh I pulled it out. Thought I feel extra surface area is nice, I am not a fan of elevated aluminum, especially given my one not-Monti is a leather!
