I used to love trochus snails. They’re hard workers, can turn themselves over, can shake free hermits, and all sorts of other benefits. They were my favorite snails for years, until now... they bred, which I actually captured in a video in a tank update. A few weeks later, they are everywhere!
I don’t like snails in sumps. Only bad things can happen. So far, these little guys have managed to get into and jam my Maxspect 280 gyre (the big daddy), infest my Bubble King skimmer pump, to the point where they broke a pin, mess up my siphon rate, trigger false positives on low sump optical sensor, and all sorts of general havoc.
There’s even one that lives inside the skimmer body now. At least he can’t do any real harm there. If they would just stay away from high flow areas, that would be dandy, but no, they LOVE high flow areas. They’re suicidal, and prolific. I’ve never had them breed at this rate before. There’s hardly even anything for them to eat, other than a little film algae.
