Trouble with Duncan’s

I’ve had a good past with growing Duncan’s but ever since I’ve tried putting them in my 75 they always seem to be closed. I put them on the bottom of my tank near my hammers and frogspawn and they are doing just fine. I did lower the light a little and it started opening a little more but it’s not even close to how open it was when I first got it.

hi, unfortunately your not giving us much to go on. Can you post your parameters, tank age, type of lighting and flow, pictures really help too.

It’s a 75 gallon with Red Sea 50 running at 70% blue and 30% white. My calcium is at 450, Alkalinity at 9.3, magnesium at 1200. The nitrate is 0-5 and the ammonia is at 0. The flow is relatively low, temperature is at 79, and Salanity is at 1.025z

You are running a 50 watt light on a 75 gallon tank, just to give you some perspective, I run a 55 watt light on a 15 gallon tank at 80%, and I have a 100 watt light running at 75% on a 32 gallon tank, so I think low lighting is the primary issue, you should be somewhere around 200 watts IMO. I see nothing wrong with your parameters

As you mentioned you have low flow, I would suggest to consider to add a powerhead or two.

Duncan in my experience does best in medium lighting and flow, it does best when its polyps can sway back and forth.

Its just my 2 cents feel free to ignore it, others might have better suggestions.

Thank you so much! I’ll play with the lighting and move it around and see if it’ll change.
