Thank you for the response Randy , I just have not ordered in a while and was so upset over the brs new price tag it’s more of a principle to me not to pay that when I feel it’s not right but any who I’m going to give it a go and see how it pans out thank you for your input .

Most high quality calcium products should be usable for the hobby. 94-97% pure is good for reef usable calcium chloride without getting too pricey.

@Richard baker I was also confused on pricing and started looking into it. Found out a venture capital fund purchased BRS (who subsequently purchased marine depot), ecotech, and Neptune systems after Covid. I have no doubt there is a premium being paid to the fund to recoup their ‘investment’. Actually tried to see if I could but into the fund but it’s closed.

Hi, can anyone send me few links to calcium cloride and soda ash that would work for Randys receipe? From Amazon, Walmart, Homedepot. I know his original post is pretty outdated and googled one of the products and it has a different packaging, so i just want to make sure I dont purchase anything that has not been tested. Thanks

Ashish, I talk about what I use HERE.

Simply put, for ALKALINITY, I purchase baking soda for Sam's Club in 13.5 pound bags and convert to soda ash by baking in the oven for an hour. For the CALCIUM part I've been using Preston Drive Heat (or SWI Winter Heat)...both Scotwood Industries Products purchased from Home Depot in a big bag....maybe 40 or 50 pounds. Note it's an anhydrous version and only requires 2 cups per gallon to make Randy's recipe.
