They need to be seamlessly touching no gap or it will grow over each other not meld
 
First time I'll try more hopefully they will meet when they encrust the glue.

You still got time just pop them off before they encrust. I played with my first graft like 5 times before I figured it out.

Break the jagged one against something straight and sturdy and use it as sort of a template. If they are both straight& flat and the same type of monti they “should” graft
