I've ran those union balls for yrs no problem. The regular ones that glue in are horrible & are hard to turn in the store. Just my 2c

Boy that cracked tank would of been a huge kick in the nether regions
Well that’s good to know. I’m hoping they’ll last a year or so until I feel like replacing them.

and yeah...cracking the tank was a miserable experience

How are you liking that overflow, I am deciding between the modular or exotic overflows and would like any input or opinions about either.
I should preface my review by saying it’s the only overflow I’ve ever had so I can’t compare it. That said, it’s awesome and very well built. The only negatives are that the instructions aren’t super helpful so I had to hunt around on here until I could find out how the gaskets need to go (none inside the tank, and one in between tank and overflow box), and then the bulkheads they provide are gigantic so you’ll need pipe cutters to clear enough room to run a herbie or bean animal.

I had convinced myself that this weekend would be the best time to move everything over, but now I have to work so I guess I’ll pause for another week or two. I was in Nashville this week for work and was lucky enough to sleep right through the tornadoes, even though they hit about a mile from my hotel.

I checked on the tank earlier and noticed that my diatom bloom was going...whoop. I seeded last week with the MicroBacter kit, and set up a full light schedule with the Hydras, thinking I’d be ready for fish this weekend, but I guess I’ll need to add ammonia today to keep the bacteria population.

Had a chance to do some touristy stuff in Nashville so of course I had to go to a place called “Aquarium Restaurant.”

I was able to pick up my 40 gallon frag tank from GlassCages on my way back from Nashville. Joe gave me a tour of their facility, and I even got to see a tank being made, it was a really cool experience. I'm also really excited about this tank! I didn't realize it would be an internal overflow with holes drilled in the bottom, so I had to build a stand for it. This was the first time I was actually able to see it through to completion after 3 or 4 attempts at making one. The only other thing I need to update on is my ATO/Water Change system that I've set up. I'll get some pictures of that and post an update later.

Joe said they had just redone my overflow earlier in the week so I have to wait another week before I can put water in it. Kind of a bummer, but I ran out of energy yesterday building the stand so I haven't had a chance to plumb it.

I think my wife would kill me if I broke a brand new tank!

Build looks good so far

Thank you! My wife took it surprisingly well tbh. I was being pretty hard on myself about it so she was good about not piling on. She did make me check with everyone in the area about getting it fixed before she'd let me order a new one though, but that was good to just be thorough.

@Tuffyyyyy, Great to meet you when you picked up your tank. Thank you for selecting us to build your tank for you. We love giving tours of the Glass Cages Studio and the attractions on the property. The large tank you saw on your visit was delivered this weekend. 130 x 60 x 36, 1215 Gallon. Picture below.

Let me know if you have any questions about at the overflow. I can call you this coming week if you like. Thanks again!

It was nice to meet you as well! I ended up getting everything plumbed on Tuesday and got it fully wet yesterday. About to upload some pictures of it

A few non-tank pictures. Since I got a tank my wife decided that she wanted energy efficient windows. They were delivered & installed last week. She’s very excited. My wife also had her FSA ceremony early this week outside of Atlanta, so we spent the rest of the week in Greenville SC & Asheville. We had some really enjoyable food (duh).

Oh, and my school seems to be closing in on the bask coach I’ve wanted them to hire for 2 years now. Overall an exciting non-fish week.

Well I have officially transferred everything over. The Frag tank was basically insta-tanker and now it’s stuffed. ill have to figure out how to distribute everything into the big tank once it gets done with the uglies.

The Waterbox 20 will be staying up for the time being to serve as an observation tank for new inhabitants.

The Innovative Marine 30 is listed in the local Bham page for free if anyone is interested.

Anyone have any work from home setups that they’d care to share? Here’s mine. I also brought up the 3D printer from the basement to print some reef stuff, and then of course burned through the remainder of my PLA in one day.

Also Kennedy was officially announced as the head coach of UAB basketball on Friday so I didn’t get a whole lot done. Can’t wait to see what he does with the program.

Took some time to put the filter on and enjoy my Frag tank last night.

We have a work contest this week for pets at home so I thought I’d enter the “other” category and do some reef photos. Tried to specially go for the tangs & clowns since I assume that’s what the general people would be looking for.

I was watching some videos yesterday And saw someone with a DIY algae scrubber. I’d seen them a few times before, but I saw this one and realized I already had 90% of the parts. So ran To Home Depot and got the ball valve, the last thing I needed, and set it all up. The last thing I need to do is rough up the plastic so that the algae will stick. But I was Initially just concerned with water splashing everywhere.
