Sounds like it still alive. How long has it been in the tank? How long has the tank been established?

Also can you post current water parameters?
Salinity
Alk
Ca
Mg
No3
Po4
Temp

These would be helpful in determining what is going on.

I want to say 8 months ish and he’s been in it from the start
Interesting, something sounds like it’s irritating him. Do you have other snails that are fine roaming around? Also is his opening near a rock or the glass? Sometimes they will stay shut if they are knocked to the middle of the sand where it’s not as easy for them.

I saw some of the little pods on it the other day but I think maybe my hermits being annoying to it left it by glass this morning

Assure sufficient calcium, Phosphate not highly elevated and there is sufficient food source

Good chance, yes but can also occur when tank is at or near a window
