I am doing around 100ml of two part B Ionic and max saturated Kalkwasser. Why does my tank keep wanting more? I have an 8 inch maxima clam, a little green star polyp. new frag of sps, and three acan corals. I think it is the Maxima Clam. Is there a limit to this? Should I start switching to dry two part to make it cheaper?

Clams are hogs for light and feed, and yes, I'd swap to dry 2 part or 3 part moving forward

B-ionic is a fine choice, but so are less expensive options.

What size tank are we talking about and what alk do you maintain?

Make sure the sand isn’t hardening.

I highly doubt one maxima clam is consuming that much alkalinity; they don’t grow that fast.

What’s the alk? How old is the tank? Are you also using a CO2 scrubber? Have you recently added dry rocks or sand?

My tank is 2 years old and is 20 gallons. I got it stable at 80ml of alkalinity a day with fully saturated two part. I do not know what is going on. The sand is not hardening. I am using two part like candy.

I mean fully saturated kalkwasser as well with esv bionic two part. I have only one stick and two acan corals. I am battling a hair algae and Aptasia. My PH probe is off it is showing around 8.3ph. My trident was cleaned recently and double checked everything with salifert test kits and red sea test kits.
MG 1450 Salifert
Alkalinity 8.0 Red Sea
Salifert Calcium 420
Hannah Calcium 450

Is that how much you are dosing in a day? If so, that's crazy for a 20 gallon tank. That's 8.3 dKH of ESV and 3.26 dKH of Kalkwasser a day.

That maxima clam survived 5 day poweroutages in a small tank kept putting water bottles full of hot water in there. Lots of fires with lots of power outages caused me too loose a lot of stuff. Maxima survived well. It grew it a lot since I started this hobby. It likes nutrients. I read in a news article that there were millions of muscles planted in new york bay. The water was heavily polluted and now is crystal clear from all the muscles. Why I decided to get one. They are more finkey smaller they are.

Trident calcium and Magnesium always off for me compared to Hannah, and salifert. I think it is the clam. I don’t know what else is using it up.

Something is not right here that's an absurd amount for a 20 gallon tank. How long have you been dosing that amount daily?

Sounds legit then. I guess a fairly large clam in a 20 gallon would suck it down pretty quick.

For reference in my 20 gallon. I have Monti, poccilipora, stylo, spongodes, acans, favites, leptastrea and it only drops about .5 dkh a day. All growing well.
