First tank I ever had from the late 80's

Aside from the weird film on top of the water, that tank looks pretty clean....doesn't belong in this thread lol.

When lights come on, I'm posting a planted tank I haven't cleaned
internally since 04. Top growth cut five times.

viewers in person are distracted instantly from the nonpruning
why don't you scissors etc. if you just had some red wendtii, there'd be some plants etc

Let’s see some of this ugly looking tanks that just didn’t turn out how you wanted them too. I am only posting this to cheer me up as I am a reef noob and my tank is UGLY.
I started this tank with pukani rock years ago before I understood about phosphates lol Before and after. The after photo is nothing special but shows the turn around after a few months of research and TLC. Try to stay the course!

I kept scrubbing rocks and vaccuming the sand bed with large water changes. I added a sunsun cannister filter with uv instead of hang on filters. Also an AquaC remora hang on skimmer. Ive since taken that old 29g tank out of service but I now use the filter and skimmer on a quarantine tank.

Thanks!

It took 3 months of hand picking as much hair algae as possible but it finally turned around.

I call it Hotel Coralline.

Im having a MAJOR issue with hair algae in a 55g of mine. I dont understand whats its issue is, it was fine for a couple years and then bam, ugly. Any suggestions for me?

Sometimes it takes a while.

Funny note. Where the algae grew best is now where the coralline growths best.

Um, oh yeah, keep the rocks more than 1.5" from the front glass....

Thats quite the transformation. Howd you get rid of the green hair algae?

Id start removing phosphates and nitrates by using the beast that you cant control. Use an algae turf scrubber. Diy version is like 25$
