You don’t need all that equipment to have a successful reef tank.
Buying equipment does not make you a good reefer. You need patience.
I know all tanks are different but I don’t use carbon, gfo, filter socks, uv sterilizer. If you have that doser than you will need to dose alk and calcium once corals start to grow if you ever let them. Not nopox.
Here is a picture of some of the corals in my tank.

No patience required. Just science.

Hi. Great build. I am awaiting the arrival of my RSR 250. I am trying to decide between 2x mp10 or 2x mp40 for an SPS dominated aquarium. What strength do you have your mp40s running?
Thanks and good luck

For SPS, I would recommend going with the 40’s; just be sure to use no sand bed or a high grain size.

Before I started adding corals, I had the mp40’s at around 80% on both sides. The LPS can’t handle it so now they are both dialed back to 20% which is plenty still.

For the neglible difference in price, it’s worth having the ability to add more power should you choose IMO.

Great build! I just made a few updates to my Reefer 250. Switched from Nyos 120 to Red Sea’s new skimmer RSK300. And, also added a third AI Hydra 26HD. More details are under the build thread below, but here is a pic from yesterday.

In my opinion the magnets on the MP10's are not strong enough for the Reefer 250's glass, go for the MP40's.

This is from the Ecotech site:
MP10 - Max Glass Thickness: 0.375 inches (9.5 mm)
MP40 - Max Glass Thickness: 0.75 inches (19 mm)

lol, your build is actually what inspired me to kick it up a notch on mine.

What was your reasoning to switch from NYOS to Red Sea skimmer?

Since Nyos is small and given my frequent travels, I needed a larger collection cup. And, their drain was just a great bonus, - now my wife can drain that in my absence. The color match with my formufit red was just a bonus! However, I do have an issue with this Red Sea skimmer, annoying as hell - the whistling/suction noise coming from their air chamber. Can hear that across the room. Need to research and figure out what to do, thinking drilling another hole in that suction cup or smth else. Otherwise, day 2, it skims great, better than Nyos. I like the large chamber. Shoild increase my ORP and PH due to better gas exchange. PH is at 8.3-8.4 now, lets see if this can push it to 8.5.

What was PH before? Are you using an apex?

Would love to see chart!

I’m running my ph at 8.1-8.3 but I’m dripping Kalkwasser to maintain.

did you buy those corals or grew them from frags..

its looking good !
:)

80%+ of the pieces came from people on Manhattans Reefs. I highly recommend if you are in the NYC area.

Thank you for the compliment!

PH currently at 8.3-8.4. I use eKoral controller with their probes, but I mostly use Hanna checker for PH. I mix Kalk into my ATO.
