Unappreciated but essential

What do you guys think are some under appreciated things in your tank? I'd have to say snails definitely fit this list for me. If you just take the time and watch these guys they come are quite amazing. Here's a pic of mine.

What type of snail is that? It is quite beautiful. I also find snails a very interesting and amazing reef inhabitant.
