I've got a bit of undissolved kalkwasser on the bottom of my ato. If were to just refill the ato w/o adding new kalkwasser and give the container a mix, would that undissolved kalkwasser at the bottom of the container mix into the new water or will it just settle at the bottom again?

Some is probably undissolved calcium hydroxide and has the potential to dissolve into the new batch.

Some is calcium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide, and it will not dissolve.

How does one know when the calcium hydroxide is spent?

My avast kalk stirrer directions mention changing out the calcium hydroxide every month - but I'd rather not if I don't have to (lazy). I still have two inches of white stuff stirring at the bottom.

One way is to monitor the effluent of a rector. Conductivity is the best way, but alk testing can work if it is totally clear.
