Unknown coral

My wife surprised me with a coral. The guy at the store didn't know what it was, so I guess the real surprise is, what is this. It's been in my tank almost 48 hours and has not opened up. It's my first coral so any advice will be greatly appreciated.

It's a cyphastrea, encusting coral, it will cover any surface it touches.

Second on the cyphastrea. It's kind of shocking and angering that the LFS didn't know what kind of coral it was. Not hating I've done it before when we first got into the hobby didn't ask just bought on look and price. I purchased an invasive (gsp, few inches in size) coral l without doing much research (LFS just sold it to me with no advice) it's taken over the rock we left it on... now it lives in the QT tank nice and happy growing up the front side of the tank lol. Long story short if you haven't heard it already always research before putting anything in your tank, it'll save you some headaches in the long run. I like the encrusting corals so cyphastrea is fine in my book :) Just note that for future tank planning how corals spread and grow. Great piece it's good to see that the coral is already growing to the edge of the frag.

Like I said it was a surprise to me. I normally go in when the experienced people are there. I'm just glad you guys could help identify it, and that it's not hard to keep.

I bring home stray corals as well... "the tentacles we're reaching out to me", wife's response "good it can cuddle you on the couch" :) Lol. The Evo was my first saltwater tank, I learned so much about care and equipment from it. Let me know if you ever have questions happy to help... Looking forward to seeing how your tank fills out!
