My LFS owner offered me an orphek atlantik for $150. It is one of the older white ones and has a couple of burned out led's but it looks like I can put new ones in it or upgrade to newer parts if I want.

How do I tell which version it is?

having had all versions, can you furnish a pic of unit or of the controller?
One is a dial type (V1), one looks like a small modem (V3) and other had a wifi version via android (V2)
Yes diodes are replaceable and even new boards with V4 are available to update all the diodes

I currently run V4 and Icon

Thanks. I don't have a pic, as I haven't picked it up yet. Is there anything I should look for on this besides the burned out led's?
Was trying to decide between that and a 4 bulb t5 hybrid setup with two xr30 gen 3'sfor $6-700.
I think I'll go orphek as they seem to be modular and upgradeable.

Must be 1.0 then.
All upgradeable though, so I might spend the cash and get the ikon upgrade
I would email orphek first just to make sure the v1 can be upgraded using the icon kit. Not sure if the kit is only compatible with later versions of the atlantik and it doesnt hurt to double check

Got it home and fired it up. Couple of LEDs out, but everything else seems good. Sent off an email to orphek with the SN for an ID and info on upgrades.

V1....
The new Orphek Atlantik Led Aquarium light fixture offers multiple color high power LEDs with blue and High Kelvin white LEDs. Four Orphek special red and four high range UV LEDs are also used. There are six rows of thirteen LEDs, the 78 X 3w LEDs run at 700mA each which provides an ideal PAR/PUR level for deep aquariums.

Well, I know why it was so cheap now.... after a few minutes, channels started flickering and going out. Fans even quit now. Just red light on the board. Pulled off the lid and blew it out to no avail.

Acts like a bad board to me... guess I will be looking into an upgrade sooner rather than later...

That's too bad. Maybe @_AV has some ideas about this

In about 90% of all cases, the symptoms are due to bad LEDs. I can see there are 3 LEDs completely out. The board senses a problem (essentially a short on LED channel) and shuts down to prevent damage to other components.

Older ortheks (ICONs) were also built nearly identical to the chinese black boxes where they used those glass zener diodes to bypass burned out LEDs, which then in turn would also burn out. Then it's game over until bad components are replaced.

Ive had these units and connectivity from WiFi will be your biggest challenge. They do sell V4 chips but not sure if compatable with the V2 which these are. The boxes are your power adapters and are not light. Place where there is ZERO chance of splash or water exposure.
