UNS 30A (Dual) AIO Reset (Closed)

So currently my tank does not look as good as it did. The balance I was looking for was simply not going to happen. Furthermore, I ended up with flatworms in my tank.

My lobo has slowly been deteriorating. The other corals were doing well though. How ever I noticed they did not want to fully extend. Part of that was flow issue so I purchased and played with a different nozzle which gave the movement I wanted. As I was looking over my corals I noticed something on my holy Grail torch. Looking further I realized it was a flatworm. I looked at my orange torch there was a couple there and on my elegance. While I could not tell on the lobo or frogspawn I knew they were there as well. I pulled them out and did a fresh water dip. A ton of these guys came off each coral. I had removed the sand just the day prior.

After I reglued and put this corals back in place I waited a bit then blew off the protective slime that created a barrier. While this morning the corals looked happier, I wanted to ensure I got them. I just does salifert flatworm exit and waited a bit. I only saw a couple swimming and floating after about 10 minutes. I have added chemipure also into the sock since it said to do so once you see them floating or swimming. Corals retracted a bit but seem to be ok for now.

I am also thinking about ordering some thin tan starboard to put on bottom of tank. But we shall see I think I may just leave as is.

Things got really sketchy during the end of December. My orange torch after treatment seemed to be receding as well as the welso. I was slacking on maintenance and things went south. I wasn't able to get to the water change on time before my trip and left alone for a week.

Further when I got back there was a power outage. This caused my pump to be on a very low setting barely pushing any water and my lights schedule incorrect. Who knows what the program was running. I had to remove everything then readd to app and program again. This didn't help the corals any either.

I was also not well and took me several days to figure out the issue and not 100 percent yet but a lot better. Feeling better today I planned on doing a water change but would have to wait till I got water after work. Unfortunately when I also woke up this morning I saw the orange torch just looking melted with white covering. When I got home, I blew off to see if it was just slime and it had melted. I don't know if it was brown jelly but the smell was bad and had some brown junk. But the whole tank had brownish reddish slime. Probably cyano.

During water change, I decided to play it safe and remove the Wilson as well. Unfortunately during the removal process to clean tank out, I ended up breaking off the tonga branches and needing to reglue. Needless to say things were chaotic and wife was hearing me screaming at the situation.

The corals now seemed to have settled in and very happy now at the moment. The grail is even opened up more. I will probably change the layout more but a bit later on.

Lights are about to turn off so things are closing up.

I always try and post good and bad. Well, most lately it has been bad it seems. Saturday morning waking up my torch coral looked like this.

Coral was super happy and extending more and more each day. Then yesterday morning it did not want to really open. I did feed benepets as usual and didn't do anything out of the ordinary. This morning I was already tired and warn out as I did not rest well last night. I woke up to this.

I am pretty sure it is brown jelly disease as I blew away some brown slime off. This pic was taken afterwards. I was reading about a peroxide dip. I will research make sure I know the ratio and time. I will also be doing 100 water change. Slacking off my maintenance has seemed to put me also in this position. All other corals are doing well.

So currently my tank is pretty much back to how it originally was. Just the elegance and frogspawn. I am working on getting Cipro just in case it isn't over. But think the last water change helped.

I have decided now to do an elegance tank. I have better success and seem to have less issues. The blasto I also still have and is doing good as well.

I would like to add one of the crazy colors such as with the red tentacles and then add one of the natural looking ceramic rock racks in back of on sides to add a few small elegance to grow as well as give them some space. I don't want to over crowd as they will grow. Will be also looking at pink and gold tip elegances.

It is approaching the one year mark. I was unable to stick with original plan and paid the price. Introduced bacteria, failed to maintain the tank as I did with prior setup, and tried shortcuts. While the loss of our pup and health has made it difficult, there is no excuse. I have already started getting back into my routine of maintenance

Just an update. I still have my elegance and seems pretty happy as well as my blasto. My piece with algae, some sort of bivalve and gorgonias are doing well as well. However, looks like my frogspawn is slowly dying off as well.

I will now begin to dip my corals before going in.

2 pics wife sent of my tank just now

Well, my tank was looking sad and due to negligent of dipping coral and trying to skip my water changes, I caused myself more problems. While I still have the elegance and the blasto and such, the rest was history. There was also the saltwater incident where the salinity from lfs was off and every time I would get to happy place with the tank, something happened that I could prevent. Today I made the decision to start over. Because basically, what ever I do to the tank at this point is drastic rofl.

So today I went and picked up Caribbean Dreamscapes. The rocks are really nice but also fairly large. The kit I got was for 5 to 15 gallon. I had a couple small pieces lying around as well just to add balance. So he is the final result.

I am contemplating about putting the elegance on the shelf as well above where it sits now. This would make it easy to pull entire rock out for water changes but would still have to catch shrimp and fish. My plan is just to stick with cheaper corals as well as dip. I may also end this thread and start a new since I could not stay focused on the original concept.

Picked up some cheap coral today. Multi-head Duncan, pectina, blue type of mushroom, pulsing Xenia, reddish plate coral and sun coral.

Also did a dip with Revive. Learning my lesson. May need to move the chalice to more light.

Good morning. I took this week off to try and get some things done around the house. While I made great progress in the garage, I was not able to finish.

Meanwhile my tank is looking really nice this morning.

New corals and great news. I added a couple new corals today. What should be once it settles and and gets enough light is a pink porcillapora. The other is a gold hammer. Both pretty inexpensive which is a plus.

What I am really excited about was finding out my favorite sps still exists. I had given a few nubs away. Sadly, they all suffered through a severe tank wipe and gave away the big piece. when I got out for a bit, I thought this strain was gone for good. I found out today it still exists and waiting for when I can get a hold of it. Here was the coral in its prime. So excited!

I think it was supposed to be an orange passion. But I didn't care when I got it. Im just excited to hopefully get a piece back soon and begin regrowing it.

Yeah, got to be careful with the porcillapora. Once it takes off, if not careful, can fill up a tank lol.

Just by coincidence I was researching the UNS 30A White tank and low and behold I found this thread.
What is the one thing you don't like about this tank the UNS 30A?

TIA

You are pretty much going to get rid of everything and gut it. DO NOT use their pumps. They are a fire hazard. Mainly the USB plugin but it's not a good pump.

I would also forgo their lid and get a custom glass piece cut. This way you can ensure all the equipment has holes and lighting mount will also fit. But the back lid isn't bad. Front lid I found to allow to much evaporation.

Lighting is a little tricky as it is deeper vs wider so overshadowing things can be easy. Lighting is a pain to find. I recommend one with a good spread over the tank vs a central fixed point light.

You will also want to either use their standard nozzle or buy a different or custom return nozzle. Their random flow nozzle will stop turning and is noisy.

I will say the tank itself is built really nice. I do recommend buying their filter sock adapter for it to protect the pump unless you plan on using a tray system or their sponge filter. I just use filter sock and adapter.

There is definitely some better bare bone options but it's a really well made tank. I would compare foot print of display area to others to see. Just realize you are really just paying for the tank and nothing else.

⚠️
DO NOT USE THEIR USB PUMP OR PLUG
I don't know if this has been addressed but both the original and the replacement burnt up and smoked and my personal USB plug adapter would spark as well.

Sad day today. My pederson shrimp died today. It was slightly cloudy and barely had energy to even keep itself upright laying on the bottom. I left it be to later come back and find it had passed.
