Hello all,

Quite an intro incoming, so I am looking at upgrading my Red Sea Reefer 200XL (display tank) as the seams are starting to show signs of coming apart. Red Sea customer service has been no help and said the seams are fine and I shouldn’t worry. But I do worry so I have the tank held by two braces to protect against any further separation.

So I figured it’s time to start looking for a new tank. Long story short I found Ultum Nature Systems because I needed a tank for my two clownfish. These clownfish are ones that I kept from the clutches that my main pair laid all the rest were sold or given away. The plan for the tank to reside in my hallway upstairs until my office downstairs is built and then it will move into my home office. This reef will be in my backdrop so I definitely want show quality coral and relatively silent tank equipment. I also want it to be self sufficient should I go on vacation so an apex system is a must.

I have the tank setup above with just water change water from my main display tank. Current upgrades that I changed out or added are:

- AI Axis 40 Centrifugal Return Pump

- Inkbird 306t with icecap 50watt heater

- Innovative Marine Desktop NuvoSkim DC Protein skimmer (not in picture)

- UNS Filtersock Conversion Kit

- Reef Kraken Lid (not in picture)

- CaribSea Live Pink Fiji Sand (not in picture)

So far I am thinking of the following additional equipment

- Apex EL with PH/Temp probe and EB832

- Kessil A80 with Gooseneck

- Neptune AFS

Here I’m starting to build my rock structure

Two hours later and I finished building a NSA reefscape.

Added sand and my rock aquascape. That’s all I have for now. Will keep posting as I progress through this. Overall goal is to find an aquarium that will replace my Red Sea. So far really happy with the build quality of UNS. I am looking at a UNS R150 down the road as my upgrade. Still really excited to build this small home office desktop reef. Would appreciate and potential tank mates suggestions or anything (currently thinking goby and pistol shrimp)

Cheers

I think a goby pistol shrimp pair would be good for that tank. Any idea what kind of goby you want to put in there? Also it might just be me, but I feel like you could add a little bit more rock in there unless you are going for a "little rock as possible" approach, then I would say you are good!

Thinking a Dracula goby and Red band pistol shrimp. The rock structure does look small because I want to make sure I have space later for coral growth. Here is a previous reef I had a few years ago and within two years had my birdnest grow out of the water.

So now I try to keep any aquascaping under 60% of the height of the aquarium.

Looking good! I had a similar tank at home for a while, also with an A80, and loved it.

The UNS all in one tanks are great! I really like the aquascape you built. Great job.
