UNS R150- Build

Well, just like many others... after over six years of my Redsea 525XL, thinking I dodged a bullet and got the one that would never fail...

A few months back I noticed a small, half inch air pocket forming in the top left seal...well its now nearly six inches long, completely seperating and beginning to weep and show salt creep outside the tank... Unfortunately this is terrible timing time as after three years of trying to conceive, years of fertility treatment, two miscarriages, my wife is 16 weeks pregnant! However we are also doing the floors in our house and some other renovations before the baby comes in December $$$$$$$! Luckily I have an amazing friend in the area that owns a reef shop and got me a killer deal on a UNS 150R, as like many others, I will never be getting a Red Sea again.

I am beginning the process of cleaning equipment and making water for this weekend, the tank will be here Thursday and I am beginning the swap process on Saturday at 5am. Photos to follow!

My LFS had a display one and it is so nice. I love the aluminum frame and how clean it is. I can see an issue fitting my UV Sterilizer in there, but will have to figure it out. Hoping this one lasts me 10+ years and doesn't blow out like my Red Sea.

I doubt youll have any problems. These and CADE tanks are what i want to upgrade to for my next tank (currently a Red Sea)

Let us know if you have any questions! Make sure you use a piece of paper to make sure all of the leveling feet are fully touching down before you put the tank on top.

When you do the paper, it should catch the paper right? I hate leveling tanks. lol. My floor is pretty flat and is slab, but will double check.

You should be unable to slide it underneath, correct. It should run into the rubber feet instead.

Tank is done for the day. Have to clean up wiring and such and hook up all my dosing stuff. But 10 hours today and two last night. Im pooped. The only loss was my giant basketball size frogspawn broke apart...so will have to figure out what im gonna do with that now

So far the only issue I have run into is the Red Sea Roller Mat sits high in the sump due to the elevated drain chamber; due to that you get some splashing under the unit. I spoke with UNS and they recommended filter floss or a foam pad under the unit. I did that but still have a bit of agitation on the bottom of the unit. My resolution seems to be to run the sump a hair higher, but will have to get a small riser for my Protein skimmer because its a bit low in the sump. I will say again, this stand is so nice, and the customer service is great.

I installed some lighting under the stand which helped a lot in my dark living room and got all my dosing equipment installed in the left side of the stand, just waiting on some new head tubes as I have one leaking. Working on getting my Alk back up into the high 9s low 10s, where my coral like it. But all seem to be acclimating ok.

Tanks going good. My 525XL cover somewhat fits (I cant BELIEVE how much a cover costs now, I got mine six years ago for like $300, now they're dang near $600!!!). I got my UV set up as I have some Dinos going on. I got a new bulb yesterday and seemed to make even more of a difference. I am holding off on running my skimmer to let the tank get dirty a bit. Coral are getting a bit happier over the last few days. I am getting my Alk, Calc and Magnesium back up where I like it as well, slowly but surely.

Yup, I got rid (sold because it just broke in a bunch of places) of a bunch of my giant frogspawn which was a huge sucker of my nutrients (Literally was the size of a basket ball before the move) so I dropped them down to bring them up slowly.

I Dose:
Soda Ash (Alk)
Seachem Reef Trace (Trace Elements for tank)
Seachem Reef Plus (Vitamin & Amino Acid)
Seachem Reef Fusion 1 (Calcium)

I generally run full Triton Method basically. I didn't do a water change in nearly six years before the tank move. I may do a few early on this one just to balance out my numbers.
