Hello,

I’ll be upgrading my 3ft tank to a 5ft tank shortly and wanted everyone’s thoughts on what to stock.

Currently in my 3ft I am running a media reactor with gfo/carbon, along with a fleece roller, and skimmer. In the 5 ft I’ll have the added benefit of a refugium. I have a ton of live rock in the 3ft, scapes HNS and will be adding some dry Marco rock for more places for the fish to hide/sleep in the 5ft. I use a avast marine plank and feed a mix of different foods 9 times a day. I sometimes also feed frozen with selcon throughout the week.

Current stock list is below along with many different snails and urchin.
  • 1 Lo Foxface*
  • 3 Leopard Wrasse
  • 2 Canary Wrasse
  • 1 Royal gramma
  • Pair ocellaris
  • 1 Banggai cardinalfish
  • 1 Lawnmower Blenny
  • 1 Randals goby
For the 5 foot I want to eventually introduce mandarins so I will be rehousing all of the wrasse during the switch as they do eat all of the pods I dose.

Below is what I will have stocked. Planning to introduce the new fish all at once and make sure they are on the smaller size.
  • 1 Lo Foxface
  • 1 Royal gramma
  • Pair ocellaris
  • 1 Banggai cardinalfish
  • 1 Lawnmower Blenny
  • 1 Randals goby
  • 1 Copperband Butterfly
  • 1 firefish
  • 1 flame angel
  • 1 blue hippo
  • 1 purple tang
  • 1 yellow tang
  • 1 Whitetail Bristletooth Tang
Eventually a pair of mandarins.

Any thoughts/experience would be helpful in my decision.

Thank you

That list looks pretty good, but it would be good to know the exact size of the tank so I can be 100% sure. For example depending on the tank size, that tank might be to small for a hippo and too small for that many tangs. Also three leopard wrasse might not get along with each other. Other than that everything looks fine.

The tank is 60x24x24 120g Display and 30 gallon sump.

The three leopard wrasse get along fine in my current tank but I won’t be moving any wrasse over so I can be sure to have enough pods for mandarin fish.

That’s a little small for a hippo. But everything else is fine.
