Thinking I'm going to make a simple underwater scrubber. I have all the supplies I need which is why I'm not looking at doing a waterfall.

Will this be efficient on a 75 gallon tank with 90ish gallons of total volume?

Was thinking a 4x8 screen.

Nitrates are about 20 right now.

Algae will without a doubt remove nitrate and phosphate. Will one upflow ATS be enough to be the only filter on a ~90 gallon system, probably not. I depends on your live stock and feeding. If you don't add any food at all, it probably wont much algae if any. If you're feeding 6 cubes a day, there is no way a 4"x8" scrubber is going to take up all that nutrients.

I built an upflow ATS out of a piece of 2" pvc with 5 x 3 watt leds with a 3" x 12" screen. I made it for my 20 gallon quarantine tank and it does a good job. I wouldn't expect it to work as my only source of filtration on my 210. Having said that, I am a big fan of algae filtration. I'll never set up another system, including quarantine, without some kind of algae. So I suggest putting one in, but either go bigger, or don't neglect other maintenance.

I was going to do a 4x8 screen with a grow light on it.

My fuge just isn't doing enough. Maybe I'll go bigger, like 8x8 or 12x12.

I'd like to get my nitrates down in the 1-5 range.
