Cheapest way is to do it yourself. Could be a fun learning experience :). You might be able to buy an all one one diy drop kit kinda like this.

And then buy a cheap 40 gallon aqueon tank and then bam you got your own diy all in one reef tank for dirt cheap. If not check out fluval, though it’s still sort of expensive as water box and RedSea.

I’m not exactly quite sure but I believe marine land, Fiji and bulk Reef supply have them. Though the review are pretty mixed. It’s much better to do it yourself and silicone it instead of buying the drop kit.

I’m so dumb. I just thought “peninsula” meant “rectangular”, I didn’t realize it meant a tank where the components were on one of the ends and not the back.

So if it makes a difference for recommendations, I am merely looking for a tank that is wider than it is tall LOL.

Okay, I think I came to the conclusion that the waterbox AIO 50.3 is the tank for us (did the numbers and 50.3 is π times as big as my current tank!! A mathematical good omen perhaps).

I’m going to do two AI prime 16 in white but I’m going to need to figure out a tank mount that is inconspicuous (white or clear acrylic), and doesn’t flood light into the room. If I can’t sort that out, I’ll try the blades instead. My LFS said they should still be able to support the growth of macroalgae. The room is bright enough (south facing with big windows on three sides) that I sort of wonder whether ambient daylight might be enough red if the blades don’t provide it.

One thing I’ll need to spend a lot of time thinking about is how I’m going to do my aquascape. I’m going to be adding rock to my existing rock, but I’m not going to be able to glue a structure together because the rock all has coral on it! I may be able to knock off a few frags and keep them in the existing tank but I’m not sure.

Something that I didn’t even think about as a total newb, but now I want to plan for, is to know what corals I want in advance so I can build my aqua scape around it. That’ll be fun—my husband will put his interior design skills to work, if only there was aquarium CAD.

Can I get by without a skimmer? I don’t want to deal with the maintenance of that, but I’m also eager to do fewer water changes rather than more (Husbandry police, have at me). I guess that’s easier? I can always get a skimmer and one of those toilet paper roll filters as gifts for myself later, and keep the tank under stocked until I have them.

Anything else I’m not thinking about? Thanks for all the help so far!
