Ok so I am finally getting to upgrade my tank. It’s been up and running for almost 3 years. Not a major upgrade in gallons but huge in quality of tank. I’ve currently got a 90 gallon old school rimmed tank with a 40 gallon bashsea sump. today I picked up a Fiji cube 108 ext at my lfs for a song. A Guy bought it and never set it up tank never even had water in it I am now in the process of building the new tanks plumbing system after reinforcing the worst stand I’ve ever seen. My problem is it’s going to live where my 90 gallon currently is so I can’t really cycle the new tank, and I don’t want to cause a major crash to much hard work over the last 3 years to rush in half cocked and kill all my critters which I have fallen in love with. My original plan was to get all my friends to come over all of which are fish guys to help me and move as much water into plastic totes as humanly possible and start moving fish and rocks into the totes with heaters and stones. I plan on using almost all of my old equipment which is my sump, algae scrubber, my skimmer, heaters, both Nero wave pumps, uv steralizer and my return pump. I’m even planning on reusing my RFGs and locline for my return off the old tank. all my equipment was over sized for my tank to begin with so why not keep all the high dollar goodies I’ve added over the years. I’ve also got about 1lb of ceramic bio media I leave in the sump in case I need to quick cycle a qt tank.
As for Live stock
There’s
1 Darwin clown fish
1 black storm they are a mated pair
2 firefish
1 aptasia file fish
1 scopas tang
1 lawnmower blenny
1 flame angel
1 fairy wrasse
1 yellow corris wrasse
5 pajama cardinals
1 royal gramma
1 mandarin
To many hermits and snails to count
1 sand sifting starfish
1 feather starfish
1 long spine urchin
16 RBTA nems
A handful of rock nems several mushrooms a pretty good sized colony of gsp and a couple of small zoa colonies
There’s probably about 100 lbs of sand and around 80 or 90 lbs of rock. All of which I planned on moving to the new tank.
So my question to everyone is how should I go about this transfer am I on the right path or do I need to make some alterations in my plan to have my best chance of not losing anyone. Thanks in advance for all the help
