What’s everyone’s thoughts on how long a tank can set dry before you’d need to reseal it?

A lot depends on how it's stored also. Not having water in doesn't damage silicone because it doesn't dry out. From what I've ready UV from sitting in the sun is bad as well as drastic temp changes like seasonal changes where there's a winter. Also how the tank has been handled. Not so much a problem with small tanks but I've seen large tanks that held water leak after being moved. I have no experience with acrylic but have been told a quality built acrylic tank will last a lifetime.

I have 4 used tanks 80 gallon 100 ,180 and 220 the 80 and 100 are up and running the 180 is getting close and haven't messed with the 220 yet any used tank I get I reseal and leak test in garage for a week or so just in case
Resealing a tank isnt that big of a deal I use very sharp chisels and razor blades to remove old silicone clean with alcohol and blue scrub pad then reseal with aquarium grade silicone
for me saving $ on used equipment is always fine but with a tank if the seals are even a bit frayed or chipped from a scraper it needs a little TLC

I’ve had a few used tanks, really depends on condition when found for sale and age. I wouldn’t buy a 10 year old tank without re-seaming it, most of what I’ve found is a couple years old at most, and in great condition.

Manufacturer matters to me also. I prefer miracles tanks and am local to them so they are fairly common. You can buy them for Pennie’s on the dollar. Picked up a starfire eurobraced 36x18x24 deep and steel stand for $100. It’s my QT system.

Paid probably 10% of new for my 225, double eurobraced with armour seams and steel stand, again a miracles tank.

The big hard to move or heavy tanks are the best deals for a reason, and this brand is overbuilt big time.

Would I buy a used Red Sea or marine land tank over 50 gallons? Nope.
