Would you trust this return barb - or get a different one?

New plumbing, it’s supposed to be a 3/4” hose but the 3/4” barb I got even after boiling water is incredibly difficult - you can see what it looked like on the barb that came with the system (they only had one barb and then a 1/2” valley - the fitting I got has 4 barbs and short valleys, I got it to the 3rd barb lip).
This is a reducer barb, so it’s 1” slip to 3/4” for my return pump going into the I thought 3/4” return line.

But idk, do I trust it? Is it too big and I’ll crack the hose at some point and cause a floor like wha TSA everyone’s thoughts here.

That’s definitely a tight fit!

I don’t really ever run into this vinyl tubing splitting lengthwise from being stretched, thankfully! It typically just hardens in the stretched out shape you install it in over the years…

That said, this should work! — you may want to consider a plastic hose clamp on that return pump side, but it may be redundant with how tight that fit looks already!

I don't know if its R2R approved but I do that with hose quite often. For returns I use silicone tubing because it's easier to work with and I feel it helps reduce vibration and noise. Plus it's easier than vinyl to get over those barbs

So you’ve had it that stretched already? I was thinking maybe I needed a smaller barb but then idk if it’s too loose?

I’d say so, considering that some barbed fittings only have 1-2 barbs in total!

Typically, you see a hose clamp used on these barbed fittings to guarantee that they don’t leak or blow off… in this case you’d use an all plastic hose clamp that won’t react with saltwater…

Though, the tubing is stretched so tightly around this barbed fitting that it may be realistically impossible to remove by just yanking on it now, thus the hose clamp is probably redundant! (This isn’t a garden hose end at ~60PSI city water pressure, it’s a low-pressure submersible pump… thus, the hose clamp is less important!)

I would throw a plastic clamp on and be done. There's no substantial pressure on the that fitting, just open flow.

The pressure thing is important. This line, being the return, has an open end and will be under minimal pressure. Itll be fine, as is.

smaller barb also = reduced flow, the inner diameter will be smaller as well.

That looks just fine to use to me.
