Using AI Prime 16HD without lens

Hi, so the lens' on Prime 16HDs melted. It's a little expensive to get replacements in Canada and want to wait for a trip to the US before replacing. Is there anything wrong with continuing to use the lights without the lens? I assume I have to be careful with water splashing up onto the diodes and there will be more light spread (decreased par). I currently have 3d printed shroud around the lights. I also use a polycarbonate plate over my tank to minimize evaporation which kind of acts as a diffuser too.

As high as $40 and as low as $18 each in local aquarium stores. Shipping from AI is $50 for a single lens.

Happy if anyone knows of a cheaper solution in Canada. I will order 20 of them next time I go to the US and sell them online back home. =P

you guys can simple offset the lenses , reds and greens channels will replace the place of the melted uv and purple channels and doing that alone will double the life of the lenses.

I have to opposite problem for different items only sold in Canada. For Samsung bespoke dishwasher. Wife wants the emerald green cover but can't get it shipped here without a huge fee if they even do ship. I did some looking on eBay.ca for the lens piece for you and they are all 40 plus with shipping.

What do you mean? Purple is far more important for photosynthesis

Lux lens is only compatible with specific versions not AI/Hydra lights ( is not compatible with the ones with 4 screws in the lens ) is only compatible with ones with no screws !

So if u fallow the steps in the photos you will lose the red and green quite a bit but win new lens for the UV and Violet

( you can increase it from 5/6% as it's usually recommended to use a little bit to like 20/40% to compensate and get same red and green light trough the burn spot lens with same spill light around the burn lens area that now is covering them ...however green and reds do not matter that much unless you have display macroalgae like me.

I'm on my 3rd or 4th set of lenses. The first time mine melted, I couldn't figure out which ones I needed (at least at the time they had a few that looked the same). I sent them an email, told them what happened and asked which ones I needed and they sent me out some free lenses to replace the melted ones. The funny thing was, I just needed to know the item number and I was going to buy more than what I needed since I figured I would need to replace them again. And since then, each time they melt, I reply to that original email thread and they send me out new ones. Haven't paid for any yet.

The funny thing is, if I was paying for the new lenses, I'd probably have replaced the lights by now. Those lenses, while they are technically user replaceable, they're clearly not meant to be. If they were, you wouldn't have to dismantle the entire fixture to get to them. Plus, the light gets noticeably dimmer as the lenses melt more and more. But I have a hard time spending, what, a thousand dollars to replace them when I can get the lenses for free.
But how on earth are they still using these same lenses and selling these same lights. Have they not found a different material they can use that would be more resistant to the UV and/or heat than these?
