I recently purchased an algae scrubber for my WB 220. As you all know the WB sump area is pretty tight. I am not using the RO reservoir in the right cabinet and thought that would be perfect space for it.

So my question is, if anyone had an algae scrubber located other then the sump area?

I was thinking of having soft tubing from the manifold to the scrubber, lifting the scrubber higher then the water level in the sump, and then running pvc back to the sump.

Honestly, I think anywhere you can fit it with easy access to remove the tray/screen is fair game. I've seen some located above the sump itself, adjacent to the sump, in a separate chamber and even behind the tank.

I was thinking it wasn’t that big of an issue, just worried of it not draining properly and flooding.

I just installed a new AS 5 days ago on the side of my aquarium stand. Soft plumbed around the back of the stand into to sump. Bought a small 24” table at Goodwill to set it on so it could properly drain into the sump.

So there were no instructions with the unit upon purchase. It’s not rocket science by any means but I set the inside unit water level (which can be adjusted by the outside ball valve) to just between the bottom and top drains. After 5 days it’s already begun to produce algae on the screen. Im guessing that the larger bottom drain will never get clogged. We’ll see.
