Using Chemiclean with a sulfur reactor

I have been fighting small outbreak of red slime for well over a year. Despite trying to locate the source I can’t get rid of it. In the past I would do a chemiclean treatment and after two days it was gone. Once gone I am good for about 4 months. Since my last treatment I have installed a sulfur reactor and after two months it’s working perfectly. It has not help my red slime issue but has stabilized my nitrates. Th chemiclean manufacturer has said it won’t harm by reactor but I am not sure. Anyone have experience with using chemiclean with a sulfur reactor. Thanks in advance.

No I don’t I try not to use chemicals as much as possible. Fighting cyano for over a year is odd and I would think it may be a nutrient issue. What are you numbers? A tank should stabilize and it should be getting outcompeted by other bacteria by now. Have you done any icps to see what water looks like. I’m thinking potentially some silicates or other issues getting through your water. Is your rodi up to date?

I have a similar situation and will probably use an antibiotic such as chemi clean again. I don’t know whether it will impact the sulfur reactor bacteria, but I have never heard that it does.

First thanks for reply. Yes I do run ICP tests and everything appears fine. My Nitrates are 5 and phosphate about .1 but I have been tweaking those number so that definitely not the cause. My tank is old 14 years and my best guess is years of buildup.

Thank you. The manufacturer said it wouldn’t but I am not convinced. I was hoping someone has actually run the treatment with the reactor. I would prefer correcting the issue but as I said can’t find source

There are a number of things that help with cyano, including higher flow and manual removal, but those are not always possible. Reducing organics also helps. Nutrient reduction is not typically a great way.

I have my flow relatively low for noise reasons, and so cannot take that approach.

As I suggested, higher flow, manual removal, reduced organics, and when sufficiently problematic, antibiotics such as tylosin (e.g., Chemiclean).

Generally, few pests we have are best dealt with by reducing the nutrients nitrate and phosphate because to starve them out we often also begin to starve corals. For many pests, a clean up crew is best, but dinos and cyano do not have as many organisms that eat them as most pest types of algae.
