using stainless steel clamps

The metal clamps are for pumps and in the sumps. From what you said they will leach. Will that be toxic and if so what is the best way to secure hose fittings if not with s/s clamps?

I install a short piece of tubing between the pvc and my return pump to add cushion to the piping. I use these and never had an issue.

I get them from a different source, but that looks exactly like what I’ve been using for quite a while. Expect to need pliers to close them enough, and don’t plan to be able to get them off without cutting them.
I use them directly on silicone tubing without padding and have not had any issues.

It depends on what type of stainless steel you use. He cannot give an answer without knowing that.

If you do not know the type, don't do it.

There are different type of stainless steel used; If remeber well, only A4 grade is designed for "marine enviroments" (wont corrode)

+1 here. I manufacture stainless steel and almost all stainless steel will rust if submersed in salt water, even A4 (316). Only specialized stainless steel will not rust in those conditions, certainly no hardware available in a hardware store will meet that criteria.

For me, I just heated vinyl tube over barbed fittings without clamps.
