Are wood or steel stands better?

I've built a few steel stands out of 1"X2" rectangle bar but the keep coming out kinda wonky. The steel is to thin to weld a good bead on so when it heats up it torqued inevitably.. driving me nuts. Also kinda worried about the salt rusting the steel eventually. They are powdercoated..

So this next one I'm going to build out of wood. It's a 36"X36" 200G cube. Can teo 2x6 joined to make a 90° angle for each leg cut it or is more leg brace at each corner required?
