My water is expensive here, rather than dump the water from a water change down the drain can I use it to fill my new tank in addition to making new water?

Yeppers! I actually take water from a water change and a sponge from my sump to fill my qt/hospital tank when I need it up and running.

Great news appreciate all the responses!
This is absolutely a great way to save. The only addition I have, is do not do it if there is any chance you have parasites like ich and velvet in you DT. You will bring them across.
