Okay - So I inherited my parents 180 gallon tank - and I'm finally ready to set it up. It came with 2 holes drilled into it - one on each side of the tank. I'm building a stand/hood for the system and all returns will be above the rim (hood will hide) and I'm drilling two additional holes in the middle of the tank for a Shadow Overflow Box. I'm going to use the two bulkhead holes already drilled to feed the 2 UV sterilizers (one for algae and one for parasites) and then return those up again above the rim of the tank. The two sterilizers will be under the tank and the sump is in the room behind the tank (under stairs and not a TON of room).
I feel like the advantage of this is that it's two closed loops systems that, in the event of a power outage, doesn't allow for additional overflow into the sump. As I've not plumbed any of this yet, I have some flexibility here. My question is this: from the tank, it will flow into a gate valve (to slow flow as needed), into a flow gauge, then into the UV and finally through the pump that will feed it back to the tank - does this sound right?

Thanks so much for your advice! Excited to get back into this!

What external pumps do you plan to run?
Most external pumps are much higher flow in my experience then needed for a UV.

Two UVs is a good way to combat the nasty stuff but be aware they do produce a lot of heat

Each will have a dc pump to allow for dynamic flow. It’s good call out on the heat. I’ll have a couple of fans that I can turn on in the hood if needed. Hopefully that’s enough.
