So I have been on the road since June of 2010, during this time I have not really done much with my 300 gallon tank. I have been slowly losing SPS colonies due to very slow STN.
Last week we Alabama had some very serious tornadic activity that left us in the dark for 6 days, I had a generator but could only run my lighting for a very short time. With all of that time on my hands I decided it was time to get back in the SPS game and see what all was going on in this 300.
I found that my Calcium reactor has been maintaining my calcium at 380 and my alkalinity at 9, seems to a bit out sync but I am not to worried about that. I then went to go test Phosphate, Nitrate, Ammonia and Nitrite. The Ammonia had just a hint of color change due to my Blue Jaw trigger dieing, I have yet to find him. the Nitrite was 0, now for the Nitrate it was off the chart. I am using the ELOS and Salifert test kits and only had to wait a very few minutes not the full five for it to be redder than the card. My Phosphates are high also.
So I am going to begin a very new experiment using the Vertex Pro-Bio Pellets, I have installed the reactor and pellets today and will let them tumble for 24 hours before I add the bacteria strain.
Here is a picture of the supply manifold my wife made me last night, she sure is proud... Cant you tell
Here is a short video of them tumbling in the reactor. (Click on Video)

Here is a tank shot from today (tank is very dirty)
