So here's what's been going on in the new 180. It's been 9 weeks and after last week's test subjects I decided to cut some acro frags from the 90. (More test subjects). Fish additions include 3 queen purple anthis.

Which are eating baby live brine and some frozen cylopeez. Also getting along well with the 3 chromis that started the tank. Also got 2 tangs a power brown and a sailfin. They are currently in quarantine

And they are also getting along and eating well. Here are some sticks.

Well the tangs are finally in the 180. I think they are a lot happier.

Sorry my fat fingers hit post
Anyway like garage clutter it got buried for months. I ordered this tank to go in a specific place in my house but it required a construction project inside and I was definitely slacking.
20191012_120039.jpg
Here stood a wet bar that needed to be tore out so that the
new 60×30×24 tank would have a home. This was going to require commitment because my wife had doubts
Well I slowly started working on plumbing in the garage.

so I worked out some issues I kind of figured out how I wanted the bones of this thing to be. So after slacking long enough I took out the sledgehammer and started the project inside didn't go as bad as I thought it helped that my wife is at work and I was on vacation

tearing down the wall did require some structural reinforcement of the bulkhead beam but once I got that taken care of I was clear to tear out the rest
20191019_181800.jpg
next was time to build bulkhead and do drywall
20191020_172329.jpg
20191118_172511.jpg
Outlets were installed as well as moving light switches doorbells and thermostats

with plugs up high and down low I should have plenty of outlets. Next was capping water lines and shortening the drain which will be used for automated water changes.

So today was moving day. What a beast! Thank goodness my friend Chris who I owns The Fish Store (my lfs) let me borrow his hydraulic lift table and ramps.
20191202_224953.jpg

Which leaves me where I am today. I know it's not complete but it's a solid start I thought I would share with you guys this tank is going to be built-in style tank with three viewing sides not quite a peninsula but nice nonetheless. Next I have to reinstall my plumbing and sumps and start configuring all my electronics controllers and gear.... more to come later
Very nice start to a very ambitious project!!

So how are you going to keep detritus from building up under the rock with them on the acrylic rods?

There is plenty of flow to keep it from settling but quarterly I probably will blow it out and re settle clean sand under it

It's so hard to commit yourself to the finishing touches after completing the bulk of the build. I know the feeling, hang in there!
Yes while fish and coral are being added weekly I have slowed on the woodwork part of the project. But the wiring is advancing. And the auto water change is in the works. Baby steps. Remember I am still maintaining a 20yr old 90g. :D

A 20yr old tank Wow! I have been stuck in a constant cycle of 2 to 3yr old tanks for the last 13 years. The military life had me moving every 4 years, so it would take me about a year to settle in and find the best LFS. After cycling this left me with less than 3 years to grow out as much as possible before the selloff and teardown.:( But now that I'm retired I get to see my tanks mature! This is month 3 so a long way to go.

Well you know how to do it but this time at year 3 you will just keep on trucking. I put some picks of my 90. I have some coral older than my kids lol.

Nothing major this weekend. I did some wire management. Also got a confirmation on my last rapid led corona light fixture to be delivered by Tuesday so I will be able to finish up my canopy .

I was wondering what that little 2x4 cubby was for in the pictures before. Great idea looks sharp to. Nice woodworking and reef keeping skills!

Hoping I will get motivated to paint one day... I'm sure my wife's "encouragement " will help. Lol

from what I can see that's a 20 gallon aquarium an acrylic sum and a 10 gallon i'm guessing ato. I really like your plumbing and the way you put it all together.
