Vipraspectra 165w best lighting for a 15 gal tank

Hello reefers,

I have finally acclimated my new vipraspectra 165w light. I currently have a 15g tank with LPs and sps coral with a few inverts and a clown. Can anyone give me there input on the best Blue & White %’s I should be using for that beautiful look and growth? (The light is 10” above water)

Wow that’s a lot of light for a 15g LPS in my opinion. I’d look at lights designed for nanos like AI prime (55 watts) or Kessil A160 (40 watts), who themselves may be dialed down a bit - my trucker math has you at around 20% per channel to get to around 30 watts output

The actual total wattage is about 110...
Which makes it about 55W each channel.
WELL from the horses mouth:

Avg. Power Draw: 105W±3%

Now the 90 degree lenses concentrate this wattage a bunch though.
50% blue/10% white would be around 32W
All rough estimates.

At like 10" off the water your "spot size" is 20"..
Don't know how long and wide your tank (24x12x12?) is but you are throwing a lot of light outside it but you probably have it to spare.
Then again some act like 60degree which would put the light back in the tank at 10"

EDIT:According to Viparspectra @ Amazon.. at 8" above the tank and 12" deep (effective 20") you have 600PAR in the center hot spot.

Your 10" plus 12" minus depth of substrate of like 2" is 20".

Blue 20%, white 1% to start.
Then blue up 1% each week until you get to 30%, no change in white.
You can go 9-12 hours blue daily whatever you like.
Blue is powerful to corals and dull to us.
Whites I put on an hour later and an hour earlier than blue.

The question of all blue comes up. I’ve done all blue which any issue for months, but is just a bit to blue even for me.



That’s a big light on 15g. Full out, would burn corals fast.

But I have used it successfully on a 20g, and 2 on a 60g.

Once set, never touch them again.

Well .. theoretically you can go from 1w (1% each channel at 55w each channel ) output to 110Watts so yea its "appropriate" at some point..

2 Fluval Nanos at 20w each would be appropriate depending on ultimate goals.
