Hi Everybody,

I been planning this build for some time now, but I didn’t have the time, until now.
This is a regular Aqueon 40 breeder from the Petco dollar per gallon sale.
This is only my second tank that I build, but so far so good.
I drilled the tank and I’m running the Eshopps Large Overflow with a Bean Animal drain system.
The Sump is a 20 gal Long with the Triton Refugium baffle kit from Jax.Racks on EBay. The baffle kit had only one drain line cut out, but I reached out and had him cut out a second hole so both drains could line up and look more neat/clean.
I will be transferring my 29 gallon tank inhabitants onto this new tank.

more info coming Soon.
Stay Safe everyone !

Are those gate valves, if so what type and where did you get it? How about those plastic clips for the pipes?
Can you share more pics? I would like to start a similar build.

Thanks, looks really good.

I am also doing a similar build, built my own sump though. Check my build out if you’ve got the time.

And the gate valves from BRS are unbeatable for the price.

Replied!

mine is also a Herbie style. Do you have a gate valve? A valve of some sort is absolutely necessary on the full siphon drain.

The key that I’ve found helps with dialing in the Herbie is to start with your valve open way farther than it needs to be and slowly close it until there is just a trickle of water going down the secondary/emergency drain.

I am looking at the articles, and in the midst of just plumbing everything together. For my return, I may just do the over the back and into the tank thing. So I am trying to figure that out before I tweak the return for the Herbie.
Bulk reef seems to carry the gate valves, so I'll look into it. Thanks so much!

Learning, as this is all to me

Nice build but just curious why from a 29 to only a 40? If space or budget was an issue why not stick with the 29? Just curious

Yeah space is limited and my 29 started to leak from the top right corner. Did a quick fix, but it’s not gonna hold for ever. I was planning on setting up the 40 as a Frag tank. I should me moving soon, so I’m holding off I have a 75 rimless that I wanted to set up as well.

Did you think it was a mistake to go to the 40b? I have a 29 currently and am wondering your thoughts. Thanks.

No, not a mistake for me. The plan is for the 40gal will eventually be a Frag tank not a main display. The plan was 29gal quarantine tank, for fish and Coral. 40gal Frag tank. And either a 75gal or 125 gal Display tank. But my 29gal started to leak, so I had to use the 40.
If you have space and the budget I would say go as big as possible Or at least a 75gal. Transferring from a 29 to a 40, your going to max out the 40 in no time.
