I am interested in buying a Vortech for my upgrade to a 36"x24"x24" gallon, but don't want to shell out 700-800 for 2 pumps. I understand that 2 together function as a wavemaker, but can I just use one MP40, and buy a MP20 later? Will this be too powerful?

Thanks!

that would be fine. you could use other PH's if you need more flow until you get another vortech. i have 1 mp 40 in my 75g and 2 koralia's to supplement it. i cant run the vortech wide open due to my coral placement.

i'd say u'd be able to do 2xmp40's eventually. one will be enough to create a wave if thats what you really want and then u could put the second one on random. and then just have a small return pump and ur set. cost more, but will use a lot less electricity in the long run.

I'm thinking I will just get one mp40 at first, and maybe a K4 to help it out, and then another mp40 later. I was just making sure that just one would be fine.
