Just received a new mp10 wet side. Opened it up and it appears to have a small amount of clear grease on the back of the magnet/prop where it rests against the white square ceramic piece. Is this normal? Should I wipe off the grease before use? I know, strange question - just want to be sure before introducing this into the tank.

Sent an inquiry to Ecotech and they said it was normal. I haven't introduced it into the system yet as they wouldn't tell me what type of lubricant it is. I'll probably wipe it off a bit before use just to make sure. Does anyone here ever apply lube to their shafts ( I know it sounds bad) on their mp pumps regularly? I'd like to get the longest life out of these.

Hubby said it's more than likely silicone grease. Not seeing it, he can't be 100%, but he's pretty darn sure. Evidently, yes we lube.

It's just so weird they wouldn't say that. It could be the rep doesn't know, but they should go find out, if that was the case.

it is normal, I can't remember what it is exactly but it is a safe lubricant. When I got new wetsides I wondered the same... put them in as was and no problems

edit: food-grade vegetable glycerine I think it was... please dont quote me though :-)
