So this one of my hermit crabs likes to climb the edges of the tank and chill at the top. Is there a reason why he does this? He ends up falling down eventually and is fine but I’m just confused as to why he does this.

Might be exploring, might be he likes something in the flow up there, might be he's found algae or something else to skim from the surface.

Mine do this also. I get a kick out of them falling (they don't get hurt). One of the reasons I have hermit crabs so I can watch their antics.

Often they elevate towards warmer water which is towards the top and follow their reflection.

I miss mine but they had to go for destroying my branching Monti. The only SPS at the time. Up to a dozen would climb up and break the branches off, started off with a few. I take them off and relocate them to other areas and the next day they would be back and of course bring along some friends. I got tired of it so I banished all Hermit Crabs. Unfortunately this is the only photo I have, the last day there was at least a dozen. Today I have one Hermit left, must have missed him 3 years ago.

If you've got a hole in your lid, you should probably patch that. Fish are great at finding holes to die through.
