Okay so I had a friend tell me this was poison and not to use it anymore in my reef
-I have used it for years!!
-never caused skimmer problems
Who else uses this in their cups or media reactor?

He said that it was bound to have harmful chemicals in it that will leech of into the tank, I said that I have used it for years and never seen any side effects what so ever.

I’ve used it for 2 years without a problem.

I'd like to know the basis of your friend's opinion. I've been using Polyfil for years without issue.

There is a version with fire retardant in it, I wouldn’t use that one. The plain polyfil is fine.

I doubt he has a basis but it just got me paranoid.
And I have used it for years also.

I have as well-- it will definitely work. That sponge I see up top will keep it from going anywhere, just like 'regular' filter floss. ;)

I use the Poly-fil Project Fleece from Walmart which is recycled Polyester. Also made by Fairfield.
Good stuff in my book.

Perhaps your friend just paranoid devoid of facts and not a reason to stop using it. As mentioned, avoid that containing fire retardant.

The reactor takes the place of my socks/cups, it does a better job imo.

I had a few “issues”. It stopped me from cleaning filter socks and spending more money!
