With a flat move must come a tank upgrade. After a long 4 years I’ve finally decided to retire my 45 litre cube, this tank has seen it all, surviving a number of moves and undergone two crashes over the years. I will wont miss this hunk of DIY junk and am greatly looking forward to a more sophisticated tank build.

After much consideration, I decided to order a water box peninsula 15, I’m a big fan of the sleek look and the “lagoon” style dimensions. My goal for this tank is to create a bommie stly aquascape, made up of two main rock structures. I’d also like to reacquaint myself with lps and sps. My current system consists of entirely soft corals, all of which will be transferred over. The only fish I currently own is bangaii cardinalfish, who I will be giving to a friend when I break down the tank. I’m unsure what I will replace him with yet, any ideas would be appreciated.

The water box arrives in the post today, im very excited to get this build underway.

RIP my old cube, you’ve given me lots of memories. You will not be missed.

Is that an ADA thermometer on your old cube? I was using one on my Waterbox 10 and it wicked about a litre of water out of the display onto my desk one night. Lesson learnt, it hangs over the AOI divider now.

Hope the new WB goes well, they’re great little tanks.

I believe it is! I’ve never had that problem with it though, weird.

It’s wet! God, moving all the livestock to the new flat wasn’t easy but I think I’ve avoided any losses so far. I had one close call with an Eviota goby who I left by himself in a dry bucket for over an hour, the poor thing was in 2ml of water tops. I probably found him minutes from drying up. Whoops, he’s doing 100% now so I guess I got lucky.

Im very happy with this tanks build quality, the glass is just so clear.

Thoughts on the aquascape? I think I like it as is, but am tempted to play around with it a little more.

To bare bottom or not is my next dilemma. I went to the hassle of rinsing it, but Im worried the stark white colour could detract from the look.

Put some sand in today, very happy with the results. Also touched up the aquascape a little, think I’m finally pleased with the look.

The highs and lows of reef keeping! So far everything has settled in well. I picked up a royal gramma yesterday, she’s very bold, fun to watch her zip around the cave networks in the tank.

However I’ve somehow managed to scratch the dang thing all ready. Luckily it’s on the smallest viewing panel (visible on in the top left of the third image). God it’s bugging me. very disappointed in myself, I think something must of got caught in the algae scraper. Oh well! I’m sure I’ll get over it soon :)
