So my nitrates are high in my tank want to do a 20% water change this week, but I did one last month all my parameters took a big swing. So to combat that swing wanted to know if I can add all for reef to the bucket with clean salt water to raise the parameters before I put It in my tank. Is that a good idea or try another method?

Current parameters:
Alk- 9.3
Cal- 468
Mag-1350
Phos- 0.06
Nitrates- 28.5

What salt are you using? Get a salt that matches the parameters you want to keep in your tank. :upside-down-face:

I’m using redsea blue bucket/bag
Which mixes well lower that you keep your parameters.. :) Pick a salt mix closer to where you want to be - or adjust your parameters slowly to match the salt you want to use.

That's by far the easiest solution to this "problem".

I am using Tropic Marin Pro Reef salt; it matches the parameters I try to keep in my tank perfectly. By using a salt that matches I avoid any swing in parameters during water change and I also avoid weekly adjustments of my dosing when doing water change.

What are you afraid off? :p Remember, Red Sea Pro is a mix with elevated elements.
