Water Change Supplies

I have a 150 gallon softie tank. I plan to start doing my own water changes after months of having my LFS handling them.
I'm thinking I'll do 30% water changes every two weeks. I will use a manual siphon (large Python) to clean the sand. Would like to use a pump to help with removing water and putting new water back in. Any budget friendly recommendations? Anyone prefer the electric gravel vacuums over the regular pump+hose? Would be nice to pump dirty water directly to the bathtub or sink.

Theoretically, the closer together you do water changes, the more stable your parameters will be.

I don’t often clean my substrate. The CUC handles that task well, but I will use a manual gravel vac every couple of months to clean up the couple of spots that get some buildup.

I use a Jeabo DCP5000 to pump from the sump to two 5 gallon buckets (it’s plumbed to a manifold with UV and a media reactor with an extra valve for water changes) and a cheap Amazon pump for mixing and to transfer fresh saltwater from a Brute back into the tank.

I change 10% weekly. Occasionally I’ll skip a week and do 20% the following week.

A python works great for removing water directly to a sink. To refill the tank, all that you need is a cheap pump and some vinyl tubing that fits the outlet on the pump.
Here’s one that will work, but Amazon has tons of options.
