I have been doing weekly water changes religiously for 3 years now. A friend of mine does his once per month. His tank has perfect parameters, beautiful coral, fish, all thriving. Got me thinking of changing mine once per month. Any thoughts?

It all depends on what the goal is for the water change. However, if you have a rhythm going, it might just be simpler to stick with it if things are working.

Weekly small water changes or monthly a bit larger maybe. It depends on needs/goals. Are you replenishing trace elements, reducing nitrates or just providing a general cleaning.

I used to do a 10% WC once a week on both of my tanks. I then switched to a 10% WC every 12-14 days and my parameters have been more stable. I haven't tried to go 1 time a month since everything has been stable. I don't use water changes to address removing Nit and Phos just to replenish trace elements.
