Question for a non-wc-believe reefer... I do WC every 3 weeks or so and do a hefty 35-40% but have never worries too much about weekly WC. What exactly does a 15-20% wc do? You are only fixing 20% of the problem... not trolling just have never seen a huge benefit except early on

You’re right and wrong!

You’re right, you’re not really fixing much with 20% besides replacing trace elements. Doing it every three weeks isn’t bad too. Some wait longer than me.....

You’re wrong for this logic, wouldn’t you rather change 20% weekly and after three weeks be at 60% rather than changing only 35%-40% every three weeks.

Say if you were changing water out after your third week, what would you do if you added way to much salt or very little salt. Then you’d be hurting because you just doubled your water change.

20% with issues would be much better then 40%.
With this being said, unless you have a auto changer, I’d keep doing it your way. Not many have the time weekly!

P.S. you set up your reef tiles yet?

I do about 10% weekly. I syphon the detritus out in the sump and use about 3g of tank water to clean the sponges.

120g and 73g tank.

Then why don’t you change every two months with 80% so you fix about 80% of the problem?

I do it weekly as you don’t swing it as much and I have to clean the glass and acrylic by utilizing those tank water to clean sponges once per week and syphon out the detritus in the sump. I just feel better that way

15% every 6 weeks for both my 65g and 130g tanks via an AWC running over a 24 hour period. Dose Aquaforest 3 part 24x7 in each tank. LPS dominant with some softies in the small tank and some SPS in the larger one.

My water change is accomplished everyday/indirectly via aggressive wet skimming with the skimmer. Never accurately measured the volume that gets drained, but if I were to guess...~1.0 - 1.5 gallons daily.
