Hi. I am planning to build a custom aquarium and I am new to this. Apologies if this is a weird question. My questions are about the wood stand with the rim/lip. During a water change, if water drips down the side between the glass and wood trim, will that cause any damage? How do you clean the salt build up? How do you clean it or protect it? Thanks.

I think we would need some imagery or a photo of where exactly you're talking about. Too many stands out there for general statements. Wipe off dried salt with a wet rag.

It's really not a big problem. If you're really concerned, since you're planning to go custom, just leave 1/8 inch between the tank and stand so you can poke a towel in the gap to absorb any spills. But again, having had several tanks that sit down into the stand, it's never been an issue.

*The stand will be painted/stained with a water resistant product anyway.

I used untreated birch plywood for my stand. I didn't drop a lot of water on it, just some drips here and there. So far it holds up fine. The end grain got some stains, but I consider that patina.
