Recently noticed my fresh water brute can build a slimy film on the can. My pump that circulates the water quit on me so I’ve had still water for a bit. What causes this clear slim?

Even though the water you had in there was RO/DI (I'm assuming) there are still contaminants and bacteria that you don't notice that create the slime when the water circulation stopped.

I had a saltwater mixing station with brute on top with RO/DI that drained into the lower brute trash can to make saltwater. The bottom mixing one was always covered in particulate and all and needed cleaning several times a year to get it to the bare plastic. Now the top RO/DI storage tank was covered and never had the slime you are talking with.

I figured this is what it was and how to address it. Just wanted to ask to be sure. I’ll get to cleaning.

I store my freshwater in a 44 gallon brute trashcan where my rodi machine fills into whenever when it gets low. I have never had a slime problem. Is the container where you store your water see through? Do you have a lid? I would say to make sure that no light can get to the inside of the bin and make sure to keep a lid on it.

I do have a lid, but have a few wires and some brackets for my float switch attached to the top of the can. So my lid doesnt quite seal per say. But I do use it and lay it on top of the can.

is it a good idea to run a wave maker (maxi jet etc) in my fresh ro/di brute can? I usually just have a heater and the lid on tight

I say yes. I however just run a submersible cheap little pump from Harbor Freight.
